Uglies

Uglies is the first of a four-part series about a futuristic society where kids are given a chance to change their appearance through plastic surgery when they reach age 16, moving from "Uglies" to "Pretties." Once one becomes a "Pretty," life is one endless party until becoming a "Middle Pretty," when you marry and start a family.

Tally, the main character, is stoked about changing her appearance when she meets Shay, a fellow student who pushes boundaries and goes rogue rather than go under the knife. Tally eventually joins Shay, who has joined a group of rebels in a hidden location.

The series moves Tally and Shay through adventures, misadventures, and misunderstandings, culminating in the granddaddy of all social networking applications...and saving the world.

For grades 6 and up.
