The Hunger Games

In the Hunger Games series, we live in a futuristic world where everyone is watched and children represent their homelands in gladiator fashion in fight-to-the-death entertainment for citizens of the Capitol. You know, reality TV like the Romans would have made it!

Katniss, a female, and Peeta, a male, selected in the yearly lottery of children forced to fight as a penalty for their homelands' rebellion years before, represent their district in the contest, and the thrills just keep on coming as they begin to have feelings for each other and struggle to stay alive.

As the series continues, the two end up taking on the government with frightening consequences. Can the two manage to stay alive? Will those they love be safe as a result of their actions? Are you Team Peeta or Team Gale?

The storylines here are brutal and illuminating; not your grandma's summer break reading from back in the day, that's for sure!

For grades 8 and up.
