The Lorien Legacies
So, you might not know this, but Pittacus Lore, author of the Lorien Legacy series, was initially the joint pseudonym for James Frey (a write of some notoreity*) and Jobie Hughes. The remainder of the series features Frey in collaboration with other ghostwriters.
Just a little something to impress your friends when there's a gaping hole in conversation that you feel compelled to fill!
The Lorien Legacy books are a science fiction series about nine aliens who look like everyday, run-of-the-mill teenagers. Except that they're alien, on the run from bad guy aliens, called Mogadorians, and have crazy, mad paranormal abilities called legacies. The series starts with an explanation about the deaths of Numbers One, Two, and Three, and Number Four trying to evade death by Mogadorian.
The remainder of the books track the alien teens attempts to avoid the Mogadorians while getting injured, angering local humans, falling in love, and adopting a small animal that turns out to be a Lorien. (Yeah, be ready to suspend your disbelief!) Book 6 (The Fate of Ten) is due out Fall of 2015 and Book 7 is due Fall of 2016.
Fair warning, this series roused loud chorus' of "Yays!" and "Nays!" from science fiction-loving readers everywhere. A good chunk of the animosity toward the novels comes from James Frey's affiliation with the book. Other say the books are simply poorly written, derivative works of this genre. The "Yays!" on the other hand, couldn't say enough good things about the books.
All that aside, this might be a series to check out and decide for yourself. Read I am Number Four and The Power of Six before making your own judgments.
